B. Joy Hansen of Plymouth, passed away July 6, 2017 at the age of 89. She was born in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania to Milo and Blanche (nee Miller) Uber on December 10, 1927. Joy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ken Hansen, in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her dear siblings Mary Jane (nee Uber) Beatty, and Milo Uber. Joy is survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Joy was a very accomplished woman. She was a graduate of Carnegie –Melon University, and received a Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University. During Joy's career she worked as a Buyer at Hudson's, taught at Marshall Junior High, and taught Textile and Fashion Design at Eastern Michigan University for several years until her retirement. Joy was an active member of the community; she volunteered at the Plymouth Historical Museum, belonged to the Plymouth Garden Club, and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. During her free time she loved to sew, quilt, garden, and make jewelry. Most importantly, Joy was married to Ken for 56 years; they always said that their love traveled to both ends of the earth, and around the world. They went to the North Pole for their 40th anniversary, flew over the South Pole for their 50th anniversary, and they are now together again.
Visitation will be Monday, July 10, at 11:00 a.m., with the Funeral Service immediately following at 12:00 p.m. noon, at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main Street, Plymouth, 48170. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
