Antonio Tomei

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Antonio Tomei, age 86, of Canton, on March 24, 2024.

He was born in the Abruzzo region of Italy in the small town of Villa St. Angelo, near Rome, on October 26, 1937, to his late parents, Maria (Liberatore) and Mario Tomei. He was the cherished and devoted husband of Lucille “Lucia” Tomei for 61 years and a loving father to his two sons, Dean (Sue) Tomei and Mario (Marni) Tomei. Antonio took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Lauren (Ryan) Liddane, Nicholas Tomei, Natalie Tomei, Kelsey Tomei, Mario Tomei, Jordan Tomei, and Ashley Chilcoff. He is pre-deceased in death by his sister, Marie Andreassi.

Among his many passions, Antonio found joy in the art of winemaking, a cherished tradition that brought delight to all who savored his creations. Antonio worked as a Produce District Manager for many years. Antonio also loved his garden and growing his own plants. His love for gardening provided him with a sense of tranquility as he nurtured his plants from seedlings to fruition, finding solace and connection with nature in the process. At the end of every season, he would share his fresh-grown vegetables with his friends and family. Antonio had a connection to his roots in Italy. His family came to America in 1953 and settled in Michigan. 

Above all, family was the cornerstone of Antonio’s life. He treasured his grandchildren and shared a unique bond with each of his loved ones. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, Antonio will forever remain a blessing to all whose lives he touched.

Friends are invited to pay their respects at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, located at 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, Michigan, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

A Memorial Service honoring Antonio’s life will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, April 7th, commencing at 11:00 A.M.
