Alice Rae Wright, age 95, of Canton, died peacefully on Sunday, September 23rd at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born September 10, 1917 in Mentha, Michigan to John Robert and Alice Merle Brightman. In November of 1936, she married her beloved husband, Garland. In the early years of their marriage they traveled the country and in 1947 they settled in Canton, MI where she lived until her death. Following the death of her husband in 1967, Alice was a nurse's aide at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. During the 1970's she worked at the Calneva Lodge & Casino in Lake Tahoe. She also worked at several printing companies including Maxwell Print Shop. Her passion however, was serving as activities director for Plymouth Opportunity House serving the developmentally disabled. Alice was very active in the Plymouth Theatre Guild, participating in all facets whether as director, producer, actor or set design. She also was active in the MSU Extension and 4-H Club. She was a member of the United Methodist Woman's Club and was a former member of Cherry Hill Methodist Church. Alice is survived by her children, Gary (Barbara) Wright, Daryl (Judy) Wright, Cheryl (David) Wurster and Merrie (Bob) West. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian Wright, James Wright, Kathryn Wurster, Matthew West, Karen Wurster, Amanda West and Michelle West and her great granchildren, Brandon, Hayley, Richard, Gavin, Lily and Aila. Her sister Anna Swindell also survives her. Visiting will be Wednesday, September 26th at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main Street, Plymouth, MI from 2-8PM. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 27 at 10 o'clock at the funeral home. Burial will be in Kinyon Cemetery, Canton Twp.
