Albert (Al) Schmidt of Northville, passed away August 7, 2016, at the age of 81. He was born in Lipton, Saskatchewan on May 30, 1935, to Henry and Rosalie (Sauder) Schmidt. Al is survived by his wife, Jeannette (Bray), his two loving children, Carolyn (David) Pelli, Jeffrey (Carolyn) Schmidt, and, his grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff), Laura (Don), Breanna, Hannah, Carver, his “elevator” grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, and Leo, his great grandchildren, Jeffery, Alexa, Samantha, David, Charlotte, Farrah, and Jonathon, and his brothers, Ewald and Leonard. Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth, “Ruthie” in 2003, his parents, and his brothers, Bill, Jack, Arnold, Edward, and John.
Born in Saskatchewan, Al became a United States citizen December 19, 1969. He was a very proud and patriotic American. Al was a Plant Supervisor and worked for Ford Motor Company for over 40 years. He was a dedicated and involved member at Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church since 1972. Al was an insatiable golfer and loved to tell the stories of his three holes-in-one and the many courses he played around the world. Al enjoyed bowling and was a leader of the Boy’s Brigade. Al was an admired hockey coach in the Plymouth Canton Community. He also was the winner of the Dale Carnegie prestigious Golden Pencil Award. Known for his infectious smile, charm, and his sense of humor; Al never missed an opportunity to enjoy a practical joke and a good laugh. Al was greatly loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Visitation for Albert will be Thursday, August 11, from 1-8pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, 48170. His Funeral Service will be Friday, August 12, at 10am at Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 40000 W. Six Mile Road, Northville, 48168. Family and friends may visit the church beginning at 9am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Contemporary Communication, 8457 E. Highland Road, Howell, MI 48843.
