Myrilla M. Schrader

October 15, 1918 — April 19, 2014

Passed away on April 19, 2014 at the age of 95. Born October 15, 1918 in a farmhouse eight miles west of Plymouth, the daughter of Coda and Myrtle Savery. Myrilla grew up on the farm, with her sisters Norma and Serena, in the same home that her father and grandfather were born in. She attended the South Salem Stone School, a one room schoolhouse which still stands at the corner of Curtis and Territorial roads. She either walked the mile and a half to school, or rode there in her own horse and buggy. She graduated from Plymouth High School. Myrilla married Bud Schrader in 1941. During his 22 month absence during World War II, she operated the Schrader Funeral Home along with Bud's sister Evelyn Schrader. One of Myrilla's assignments at the funeral home was to drive the ambulance. Myrilla was a long time member ( since 1947 ) of the Plymouth Branch of the Women's National Farm and Garden Association ( The Plymouth Garden Club). She previously served as it's President ( 1953 - 1954 and 1964 - 1965 ). Myrilla was a forerunner in the development of the Kellogg Park lighting and beautification plan. She was also a member of the Plymouth Women's Club and a long time board member of the Salvation Army of Plymouth. In 1977 she received a Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Salvation Army. Myrilla was a Life Member of The Friends of the Plymouth Historical Museum. She was preceded in death by her husband Bud in 1993 and is survived by her son Win ( Susan ) Schrader and granddaughter Sarah. Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Wednesday from 11 am until time of the funeral service at 1 pm with the Reverend Christopher Thomas of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Plymouth officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth. Memorials may be made in Myrilla's memory to the Salvation Army of Plymouth 9451 S. Main St, Plymouth, MI 48170 or to Scholarship Fund of the Plymouth Garden Club, 9739 Bobwhite Court, Plymouth, MI 48170
